Newborns and Babies

During pregnancy and birth, stress is placed on a baby’s delicate nervous system, which controls everything else in the body. If there’s stress on the nerves, it can contribute to problems such as

  • Poor digestion
  • Reflux
  • Delayed milestones

During the first year of your child’s life, they roll over, lift their head, sit up, crawl and stand. Even if they don’t have any concerning symptoms after birth, regular chiropractic checks can ensure they hit all these important milestones.

Our youngest patients receive a different form of chiropractic care than adults. With babies, just the pressure of a pinky is used. Once your children are older, Activator Methods® instrument-based technique will give a low-force, noninvasive chiropractic adjustment. We’ll be happy to demonstrate what the adjustment feels like on Mom or Dad’s hand, or on your child’s, before starting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are a baby’s adjustments the same as adults?

No, not at all. With babies, adjustments look more like a light touch and gentle pressure, as opposed to quick movements or loud popping noises.

Does chiropractic help with colic or reflux?

While chiropractic doesn’t cure or treat those issues, we often see babies and kids with those concerns. After they get adjusted, little ones often recover from colic or reflux and other issues, such as ear infections.

Why would I have a newborn or young child adjusted?

We see newborns soon after birth, because even under the most normal circumstances during birth, there can still be stress on the baby’s spine. As the spine houses those nerves that control areas for latching, sleeping, and digestion, we want to ensure that all those functions are working to their fullest.
